Professional Pipe Inspection & Drain Cleaning

When our technicians arrive at your home, you expect them to have answers to your plumbing problems. Our team always evaluates the entire system, ensuring we get to the bottom of the clog. Then, we recommend the best option for cleaning out your drain pipes.

We have a variety of techniques we use for drain clearing and unclogging.

We may use a mechanical solution like drain snaking to attempt to dislodge the clog or blockage, but we never guess that your pipes are clear. Our inline camera inspection services allow us to get a clear picture of what’s going on inside your drains.

With the camera, we’re able to quickly pinpoint the problem and find a solution. We can also use it to check that the clog has been resolved completely!

We also offer drain cleaning services to prevent clogs from happening in the first place. Preventing build-up within your drains is the best solution to limiting blockages so to keep your drains clean, we recommend periodic drain cleaning that will remove any build-up and keep your drains flowing freely. With pressure hoses and other professional equipment, we can ensure that your risk for drain clogs is reduced.

What Causes Drain Blockages?

If you suffer from frequent drain clogs or are trying to avoid clogging your drain, you might wonder why drains clog so much in the first place. It’s important to keep in mind that most drain pipes are only about three or four inches wide — which isn’t so big when you think about everything that goes down the drain!

While drain clogs are very common in North Dallas, there usually isn’t just one definite cause for all drain clogs. Most clogs are actually caused by frequently used materials that you might be surprised by. Here are just some of the most common causes for drain blockages:

  • Hair buildup – Arguably the most common cause of clogged drains is hair blockages. These are typically a simple fix, but if you’re having a difficult time getting it unclogged, call an experienced plumber.
  • Tree roots – Tree roots getting into your drains further down the line are also a common cause of blockages but are not nearly as simple of a fix as a hair buildup. If you have tree roots blocking your pipes, you’ll definitely need to call a plumber.
  • Grease buildup – It’s pretty easy for pipes to get a grease buildup, especially in your kitchen sink. However, it’s also possible to get grease-like buildup from soap in your bathroom and shower drains.
  • Small objects – Accidents happen. Sometimes small foreign objects, like jewelry or small toys, end up going down the drain and causing a clog!
  • Food waste — Especially in your kitchen sink, residues from certain kinds of food are well known for causing blockages. Make sure you’re careful about what goes down the sink, even with a garbage disposal!

To get the most accurate answer about what’s causing your drain clog, you’ll need help from the experts. If we can get eyes on the blockage or buildup, we can likely help you take preventive measures to avoid it in the future.

Natural Drain Cleaning Solutions

The number one solution that homeowners turn to when they have a clogged drain is liquid store bought drain cleaners. These substances are very common to use, and can have some success.

However, we highly recommend NOT using these cleaners to clear your drains. The acidic and caustic nature of these cleaners allow them to eat through tough substances like grease, but they can also have some negative side effects.

Chemical drain cleaners don’t always dissolve the entire clog, eating a hole through the blockage that allows it to form again quickly. The harsh chemicals are also bad for the environment and can be dangerous for your plumbing systems.

When the chemicals are flushed through your pipes, the acids can eat away at the interior of your plumbing. They can also wreak havoc on your septic system if you have them.

That’s why Jim’s Plumbing Now recommends trying DIY drain cleaners before anything else. These techniques are simple, and can usually be achieved with items around your home already!

Hot Water, Vinegar & Baking Soda

If there’s still some draining occurring, try to dissolve the clog. First, pour some baking soda into the drain to start lifting the residue. Vinegar is used next to cut through the greases collecting in the pipe. Lastly, hot water flushes the loosened grime and dissolves some of the clog. You can try this tactic more than once to eat away at your clog.

Wire Hanger

Specifically for bathroom drains, it can be helpful to try to remove the clog altogether. Since hair is one of the most likely components of a bathroom drain clog, you can bend the end of a wire hanger and use that to fish out pieces of the clog until the drain is clear.

If neither of these solutions works for you, it’s time to consider a more professional solution. You certainly don’t want to wait too long!

When To Call the Plumber For A Drain Clog?

Clogged drains are one of the most common problems homeowners face, but what are some of the signs you need to get your drain professionally unclogged?

  • Water collects and drains slowly – If you find water is draining more slowly than usual in your sink or tub, you probably have a clog or a clog in the making. Don’t let it worsen over time!
  • Foul odor – If there’s a bad odor coming from your drains, you’re probably dealing with some pretty bad buildup. That foul smell means that bacteria can be growing and needs to be addressed.
  • Bubbling toilet water – If the water in your toilet is bubbling, there’s likely a clog somewhere in your pipes forcing air bubbles out through the toilet.
  • Water backs up out of other drains – If you find that water is coming out of a different drain than the fixture that water was originally coming out of, you definitely have a clog on your hands, and you’ll need to call a plumber immediately.

Jim’s Plumbing Now isn’t here to sell you something you don’t need — we’re here to help you! That’s why you should never hesitate to call on the pros when your drain is clogged. Our experience will make the process simple and fast, and you’ll be able to rest easy knowing the problem is solved.
